Anglian Water Plans 200 Home Development in Newport

Friday, 7th March 2014

Outline plans have been submitted to build a housing development of 200 homes at Coedkernew to the west of Newport. Anglian Water Group who own the land say the site offers an ideal setting for residential development given its access to nearby facilities and links to the city centre. Property consultancy GVA, which has prepared the plans on behalf of Anglian Water, said the application site extends to approximately 17 acres close to Tredegar House and Park. Celtic Way lies to the south of the land and comprises existing commercial space occupied by Quinn Radiators, AluK (GB) Ltd and Smith News.

In planning documents submitted to Newport City Council, GVA said Anglian Water Group hopes to secure permission for up to 200 properties plus car parking, landscaping and ancillary development. The design and access statement added: "It is clear that the site offers the potential to deliver a well-thought out, high quality sustainable residential development. The proposed development can meet the objectives of good design, deliver high levels of accessibility and environmental sustainability, and fully accords with the requirements of the planning policies contained within the council's adopted unitary development plan."

The outline application said the site is considered to offer the opportunity to "deliver significant enhancement to the local environment" and would "secure the 'in principle' creation of high quality sustainable residential development".
